NEW DELHI: An authoritative source within the
Pakistan Cricket Board
(
PCB
) stated on Monday that bowler
Haris Rauf
's core contract might be "restored" following an evaluation by the board's legal experts.
Due to
Rauf
's refusal to participate in the three
Test series
against
Australia
that they lost 0-3 in January, his central contract was canceled two days before the
Pakistan Super League
began.
According to a PCB official, Rauf's appeal, which calls for the reinstatement of his central contract, is being examined by the legal team.
"There are chances that the appeal might be accepted, and his contract restored," the source said.
Rauf's dislocated shoulder keeps him out of the
PSL
for the time being. He was playing for Lahore Qalandars when he was injured during the PSL's third game.
Rauf played in the Big Bash at around the same time he decided not to play in the Australian Test series.
Nevertheless, even though the pacer had not played for his nation since the fourth game of the series in Christchurch, the PCB nevertheless picked him for the five-match T20I series in New Zealand.
In addition to taking measures, the board decided to hold off on issuing NOCs to Haris for overseas leagues until June of this year.
According to the source, Haris has filed his appeal through his attorney and included a detailed affidavit detailing the circumstances that prevented him from participating in the Australian Tests.
However, the source claims that the PCB is not pleased with remarks made by Sameen Rana, the owner of Rauf's PSL franchise.
Rana in an interview to a leading cricket website blasted the board for taking action against Rauf and said the timing of that announcement was unnecessary.
"Rauf's our premier bowler, our highest wicket-taker after
Shaheen Afridi
. To publicly humiliate him and issue a press release announcing the termination of his central contract, I have never seen this happen anywhere," Rana had said in the interview.
"I would never treat my employees like that. The employee at least has the right for you to call, email or message them. None of that happened with Rauf, and it was pathetic. It was really poor management," Rana had added.
