Star India wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant reacted to a hilarious fan chant used for Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam during India vs Pakistan matches. Notably, India and Pakistan will lock horns in Match 19 of the T20 World Cup 2024 on Sunday, June 9 at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York.

Ahead of the fixture, a clip of Pant reacting to a hysterical chant of ‘Tel laga ke dabur ka, wicket girao Babar ka’ (Apply dabur oil and dimiss Babar’). Listening to the chant, the cricketer couldn’t control his laughter and spoke about the passion in the fans of both nations which makes India-Pakistan encounters more interesting.

“I just want to say as a player, if we only look as a player then they’re also work hard for their country. There’s always some banter but it’s really interesting to see how the emotions of the fans come together as a country India or as a country of Pakistan. The way fans start new narratives such as the one you said (laughs) “tel laga ke dabur ka wicket girao babar ka”. So these make cricket lot more interesting,” said Pant in Aap ki Adalat show.

Notably, Pant recently made a return to international cricket after over 17 months during India’s opening game of the T20 World Cup against Ireland on June 5. The 26-year-old shone with both bat and gloves on his comeback as he took a couple of catches and completed a run out. The southpaw also scored an unbeaten 36* (26) with the bat to help India chase down 97 from 12.2 overs.

Having got the tournament off to a good start, Pant will be eager to continue his form against Pakistan as well. Ahead of the game, the surface at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium has come into the spotlight for having an uneven bounce.

The ICC has assured of an improvement in the quality of the pitches for the remainder of the tournament. Apart from the pitch, inclement weather is also expected to interrupt the highly anticipated game with showers predicted throughout the course of the match. However, fans would hope for a complete 40-over contest between the Asian giants as they prepare themselves for one of the biggest rivalries of international cricket.
