Panel says Karnataka OBC quota for Muslims against 'social justice principle'
Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar (PTI)
New Delhi,UPDATED: Apr 24, 2024 13:29 IST
The National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) has criticised the decision of the Congress-led government in Karnataka to categorise the Muslim community as a backward caste for reservation purposes, saying it undermined the "principle of social justice". The commission said the move had cost the rights of other backward classes in the state.
In Karnataka, all castes and communities within the Muslim religion have been enlisted as socially and educationally backward classes.
