NEW YORK (PIX11) --- New York City's iconic bodega cats need your help staying healthy so they can pur-tect their favorite neighborhood stores.
Four popular Instagram accounts dedicated to the beloved bodega cats have started a fundraiser to help the felines get veterinary care, including vaccinations, spay/neuter services, and emergency care, organizers said.
"While many bodega cats are loved and well cared for, too many don't receive the veterinary support they need," said the founder of @bodegacatsofnewyork. "This campaign ensures these quintessential New Yorkers get the healthcare they deserve."
Donations start at $25 and can be made here. The fundraiser ends June 30 and organizers hope to raise $30,000.
The funds will help support cat welfare nonprofits in New York City, including Bronx Tails Cat Rescue, Catstoria Rescue, Hardhat Cats, Sassee Cats, and Bronx Community Cats.
"These street-smart, attitude-filled legends work harder than most, keeping shelves mouse-free and vibes high," says @bodegacatspirits, one of the campaign's organizers alongside @bodegacatsofnewyork, @bodegacatsofinstagram, and @shopcatsshow.
