NEW JERSEY (PIX11) -- NJ Transit riders are heated over service delays and cancellations on one of the hottest days of the year.

A power outage knocked out service Thursday on the Northeast Corridor and the issues persisted into Friday.

Ellen, who is visiting New York from California, was directed to the 33rd Street PATH Station when her train at Penn Station was canceled. She had to walk from one station to the other with luggage on one of the hottest days of the year.

“In a 95-degree heat, it’s pretty horrible,” said Ellen. “We live outside of San Francisco. We live in the fog, so our bodies are not used to this.”

Storm Lewis was trying to navigate her way to Godniece’s Rutgers University graduation. She, too, had to move over to a PATH train because of NJ Transit cancellations.

“I would love to be there on time, but we’ll see how fast the train takes me,” said Lewis.

On Friday afternoon in Penn Station, several travelers were trying to get to New Jersey for the weekend. “The lack of emphasis around building up the train system is really disheartening,” said Cat Kerwin, who was trying to visit family. “It’s really sad, honestly.”

“My train just got canceled, so I’m just waiting for the next one to come, whenever that may be,” said Arianna Barracelli, whose train to Trenton was canceled.

Several riders pointed out that NJ Transit fares are increasing in a matter of days. Ticket prices will increase 15% beginning July 1st and 3% yearly, in perpetuity.
