New youth community center opens in Brooklyn

NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Janasia Davis, an alumna of the Center for Community Alternatives program, reflects on how the program shaped her life, stating, "This program is basically how I started my whole life."  

The grand opening of CCA's "Seeds to Roots" center in Brownsville symbolizes a lifeline for Janasia and numerous young individuals seeking a brighter future through education and support.

Having overcome challenges and dropping out of school at 14, Janasia found guidance and assistance through CCA programs that helped her obtain her G.E.D., secure employment, and build her resume, showcasing the transformative potential of the center.  

With a vision for empowering over 300 youth annually and supporting 500 community members, the new center aims to provide a platform for young individuals to explore various activities and opportunities. 

Reflecting on her experiences, Janasia envisions a promising future for the youth benefiting from the newly established 'Seeds to Roots' center.  

Patrick Stephens, a Leadership Fellow at CCA, emphasizes the organization's dedication to supporting underserved communities like Brownsville and envisions the center as a hub for justice and conflict resolution within the neighborhood. 

As Janasia pursues her nursing studies at Queensboro Community College with graduation expected in 2026, she remains committed to giving back to her community and mentoring other youth, embodying the spirit of empowerment and community support fostered by CCA. 

The new center is on Lavonia Ave.
