NEW DELHI: New Delhi Municipal Council (
NDMC
) has decided to continue with the double parking fee at around 138 parking lots in Lutyens' Delhi till April 30. It has issued a public notice in this regard on Wednesday.
The circular stated that 'the order issued by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) for implementation of Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP – II) norms is still in force and thus a decision has been taken to continue charging double parking fees to dissuade use of private vehicles till April end or withdrawal of GRAP II norms, whichever is earlier
“As per the CAQM order, all actions as envisaged under Stage II of the GRAP be implemented in right earnest by all the agencies concerned in the NCR, in an effort to prevent further deterioration of the air quality with immediate effect. This order contained provision of enhancing parking fees to discourage private transport. Therefore the validity of public notices issued by NDMC on November 13 and 28 has been extended till April 30, 2024 or till withdrawal of order CAQM, whichever is earlier. The above is brought to the notice of all concerned for information and strict compliance,” stated the public notice.
The NDMC had also issued a clarificatory public notice on December 21 stating that the enhancement will not apply to on-street parking or monthly passes. "We have two on-street parking at Pandar Road and Bengali Market and here already we are taking Rs 50 per hour from four wheelers," said official.
“With the order in place, we will continue to impose Rs 40 per hour for four wheelers and Rs 20 for two wheelers at all parking lots. The concessionaires have already been informed and asked to ensure the public notice is placed at the entrance,” said the official.
Prior to November 13, NDMC was charging Rs 20 for four wheelers per hour and maximum Rs 100 in a day at its parking lots. For two wheelers, the amount is Rs 10 per hour and Rs 50 maximum in a day.
