After gaining popularity with "
Arjun Reddy
" and "Geetha Govindam,"
Vijay Deverakonda
has faced box office challenges with films like "Liger," "Dear Comrade," "World Famous Lover," and "Kushi." In fact his latest film
Family Star
with
Mrunal Thakur
is also going through the same phase, not only in India but also in North America ( United States of America and Canada).
The film released in North America on April 5 and premiere shows were held a day before.
Vijay and Mrunal’s film has seen a slow start even for the advance booking. For its premiere shows, Family Star was screened in 334 locations where it collected US $ 282, 719 ( Rs 2.35 crore) and on the day of its release the film was screened in 464 locations where it collected US $ 217,025 ( Rs 1.80 crore) and on Saturday, as per early estimates the film has minted US $ 169,419 ( Rs 1.41 crore), taking the total collection of the film including premiere shows to Rs 5.56 crore.
The journey for Family Star looks tricky given that its India collection is also low. At the domestic box office, the film collected Rs 5.75 crore on Friday and on Saturday it dropped to Rs 4 crore, thus taking the total collection of Family Star in India to Rs 9.75 crore.
Back in North America, the film is facing stiff competition from another Indian,
Dev Patel
. His debut film as a director
Monkey Man
has made a huge dent at the box office, the film one day 1 including its premiere shows earned US $ 4.3 million ( Rs 35 crore) and is expected to have a weekend run of at least US $ 10.5 million.
