Mukhtar Ansari gets life term in case of managing arms license on forged documents

court of special judge

(MP-MLA) Avanish Gautam on Wednesday awarded

life imprisonment

to jailed mafia don

Mukhtar Ansari

in a 1990 case managing license of

double barrel gun

by

cheating

, forging document,

criminal conspiracy

and also violating arms act. The court also slapped penalty of Rs 2.02 lakhs on him.
It was Mukhtar’s eighth conviction since September 21, 2022 and the same court of special judge (MP/MLA), which had awarded life term to him on June 5, 2023 in Awadhesh Rai murder case of 1991, sentenced life imprisonment to him once again. Mukhtar had appeared before the court from Banda jail through video conferencing.
Regarding court’s verdict additional district government counsel (criminal) Vinay Singh said that Mukhtar was awarded life term under section 467 (forgery) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC and fine of Rs one lakh, seven years imprisonment and fine of Rs 50,000 under section 420 (cheating) and 120B, and 468 and 120B each. Six-month imprisonment and fine of Rs 2000 was awarded under section 30 of Arms Act, he said adding, all terms will run concurrently.
As per the details of the case, Mukhtar had managed the license for a double barrel gun in 1986 by forging the signatures of the then Ghazipur district magistrate Alok Ranjan and then superintendent of police of district Devraj Nagar, who had also been director general of police in 2013. Following exposure of facts an FIR was lodged against Mukhtar in 1990 in Ghazipur and later

was assigned to investigate it. The investigation agency had filed charge sheet against Mukhtar and also the then arms clerk Gauri Shankar Lal. Lal had died during the process of trial.

As the charges had also been framed under the section of Prevention of Corruption Act in the charge sheet against the accused persons, the trial of the case took place before the court of ADJ (anti-corruption) and Special Judge MP/MLA of Varanasi.
