NEW YORK (PIX11) -- The MTA announced an interim New York City Transit President amid Richard Davey being hired by the Massachusetts Port Authority, the agency announced.
Demetrius Crichlow will take the role of Transit President as an interim starting on June 14, according to the MTA. Since July 2021, Crichlow has been the senior vice president of the City's Department of Subways. During his tenure, ridership increased by 67%, and in at least a decade, the trains have had the best consistency in on-time performance, the MTA said.
“Demetrius is a long-time leader at New York City Transit who has ensured subway system performance remains at record levels even as we dramatically increased service beginning last summer,” MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber said. “I have confidence that he will be able to build on the successes he’s helped to achieve.”
Crichlow started working with the MTA in 1997 at the Long Island Rail Road as an assistant signal maintainer before moving to Penn Station to become a train movement supervisor. He ultimately moved to the MTA Headquarters in 2007 to be a special assistant for operations.
"I am thrilled to continue improving the experience of 1.3 billion annual subway, bus and paratransit customers,” Crichlow said. “As a third-generation MTA career professional, I am passionate about how public transportation can improve the lives of millions of people in New York City. We at New York City Transit will keep furthering our efforts to enhance service, safety, and accessibility.”
