Universal Pictures released a new action-packed trailer of Dev Patel's directorial debut, 'Monkey Man'. The film is scheduled to hit the theatres on April 5.

Actor Dev Patel is making his directorial debut with the action drama, 'Monkey Man'. The makers released its new trailer on Friday, and it is sure to leave cinephiles excited. The second trailer gives more intricate details about Patel's Monkey Man and why he is fighting a bloodied fight against the rich.
The three-minute-long trailer begins with the young Patel asking Sikander Kher if he even knows the names of the people he once killed ruthlessly before getting punched down by him. Soon, he transforms from a man seething in anger to a 'beast' who only wants to avenge his mother's death. But for the powerful Kher, Patel's character is nothing but "a crazy kid from the gutter".
The highlight of the trailer is the synchronisation between the rhythmic tabla beats, played by maestro Zakir Hussain, and the top-notch action sequences, executed with finesse by the film's cast. Monkey Man also stars Sobhita Dhulipala, Sikandar Kher, Sharlto Copley, Pitobash, Vipin Sharma, Ashwini Kalsekar, Adithi Kalkunte, and Makarand Deshpande, among others.
As per the official logline, 'Monkey Man' is a film about "one man’s quest for vengeance against the corrupt leaders who murdered his mother and continue to systemically victimise the poor and powerless." The film is said to be inspired by the legend of the Hindu deity, Hanuman.
'Monkey Man', helmed and co-written by Patel, is being released by Universal Pictures on April 5. The film was earlier announced as a Netflix release, but the makers decided on a theatrical release after producer Jordan Peele came on board.
