NEW YORK (PIX11) – Online lending marketplace LendingTree has revealed the worst drivers in New York City in a study about car insurance rates in the state.
The borough with the worst driving record in Manhattan, with 7.8 incidents per 1,000 drivers, according to LendingTree. Queens tails behind Manhattan, with Brooklyn and Staten Island following, the study indicated.
The Bronx, on the other hand, has the best driving record – with four incidents per 1,000 drivers, according to LendingTree.
Despite Manhattan having the worst drivers, Brooklyn has the most expensive car insurance rates, with annual average insurance rates at $5,748, the study indicated.
That means it could cost one person $479 a month for car insurance if they live in Brooklyn, according to LendingTree. The average cost of car insurance in the state of New York is $189 a month, the study indicated.
Manhattan drivers have the cheapest car insurance with an annual average rate of $3,628, according to LendingTree. Bronx drivers, who have the lowest recorded driving incidents, are usually charged an annual average rate of $5,153, the study indicated.
Researchers were able to determine that Manhattan has the worst drivers by comparing the number of driving incidents per 1,000 drivers inquiring about car insurance by the model of their vehicle, LendingTree wrote on its website.
