CHENNAI: A 32-year-old man
stabbed
his mother and slit her neck after he found her playing with her grandchildren and ignoring his calls to serve him food, at Ambattur on Thursday night. The woman has been hospitalised.
Shiva, 32, was living with his mother Rani, 72, on the eighth floor of Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development tenement. Shiva was working as a load man at Ambattur Estate.
On Thursday night, Shiva came home drunk. His mother was at his sister’s house on the ninth floor playing with her grandchildren. He picked up an argument with her asking her to come home immediately and serve him food. But Rani ignored him. In a fight that broke out, Shiva stabbed her with a kitchen knife and slit her neck. His sister came to Rani’s rescue. She overpowered Shiva and chased him away.
Rani was rushed to Government Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital where her condition is said to be critical. Police said Shiva used to pick up fights with his mother for talking to neighbours.
Based on information from neighbours, the Ambattur Estate police booked an attempt to murder case and arrested him.
