Man loses leg stopping carjacker in the Bronx: NYPD

PELHAM BAY, the Bronx (PIX11) --- A man lost his leg trying to stop a carjacker from taking his vehicle on a Bronx street Thursday, according to police and sources.

The incident happened near 2900 Wilkinson Ave. by Edison Avenue in Pelham Bay at around noon, according to the NYPD.

The victim left his car running and went into a Chinese restaurant when the suspects allegedly pulled up in a Nissan Rogue SUV and took his car, according to police and surveillance video.

The man came running out of the restaurant and hopped onto the driver-side window of the dark-colored sedan as it sped off, according to surveillance video and police. The suspect then crashed into another parked car and fled on foot, sources said.

Police said the man suffered head and leg injuries and was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The victim's left leg was amputated, police said Friday.

Authorities are looking for four suspects in connection to the incident. There have been no arrests.
