Rescue teams said the man – a Khopat resident – attempted suicide inside the Makhmali lake as he was apparently upset with his prolonged ailment and had also soured relationship with his family members.
Yasin Tadvi, in-charge at the regional disaster management cell, Thane informed the incident was reported around 9am Tuesday when passersby saw the man wandering around the promenade and suddenly jump inside the water body.

“Few locals instantly jumped inside the lake after him and brought him to safety. The civic rescue teams that reached the spot admitted the man to the government hospital at Kalwa. The man sustained minor injuries and is recuperating but is not ready to divulge details of his family. Initial investigations revealed he is ailing and may have undertaken the step out of frustration,” Tadvi said.
