EAST HARLEM (PIX11) -- A convicted rapist is accused of brutally beating a woman found unconscious on a bike path on Randall's Island last week, police said.
Miguel Jiraud, 30, was arrested Friday and charged with attempted murder, authorities said. The suspect was convicted of rape in the Bronx in 2011 and was released on parole in August 2024, according to department of corrections records.
"I did not (beat her). I found her," the suspect said as he was led out in handcuffs from the 25th Precinct in Manhattan Friday.
Diana Agudelo, 44, was walking near East 125th Street in Harlem when she was hit in the head and face multiple times at around 11:30 p.m. on May 16, according to the NYPD.
She was found lying unresponsive on the bike path and taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Police said the Agudelo suffered a skull fracture and multiple facial fractures. She remained in critical condition as of Friday afternoon.
The woman's colleagues started a GoFundMe page to help her with medical and living expenses. The site has already raised more than $38,000.
"We are deeply saddened to share that our beloved colleague, Diana Agudelo, was seriously injured as she was traveling home from the Museum. She remains hospitalized and is currently unable to work," the crowdfunding post said.
