Lok Sabha elections: Will AIADMK, DMDK come together?

CHENNAI: Members of the AIADMK

seat-sharing committee

, including former minister S P Velumani, on Friday visited

DMDK

general secretary Premalatha at her Saligram residence, indicating the coming together of the erstwhile allies for the general elections.
This is the first official visit of the committee ever since it was set up by party general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami.

“It’s a courtesy visit,” Velumani told reporters later. Asked if the

alliance

had been sealed, Velumani said, “When two people visit and talk, what will you say?”
The former minister said the parties would constitute committees to take forward the alliance talks.

The

AIADMK

had been holding a backdoor negotiation with the erstwhile ally amid demands from Premalatha that the DMDK would join ‘any’ alliance that offered 14 LS seats and a Rajya Sabha seat.
Former ministers P Thangamani, K P Anbalagan and P Benjamin accompanied Velumani, and paid floral tributes to the portrait of late DMDK chief Vijayakant.
In 2019, DMDK, a constituent of the AIADMK-led alliance, contested in four seats, Chennai North, Kallakurichi, Trichy and Virudhunagar, and drew nil. It called off ties in 2021 assembly elections over differences in seat sharing after holding three rounds of talks with the AIADMK leadership.
