Ladakh
is the only parliamentary seat from the
Union Territory
of Ladakh. It has two 26-member hill councils- Kargil and Leh. Earlier, Ladakh came under the Jammu and Kashmir Lok Sabha constituency until its recognition as a separate Union Territory in 2019.
As per EC's announcement, the
General elections
in Ladakh will be held in a single phase on May 20, 2024 with vote counting scheduled for June 4.
Indian National Congress,
Bharatiya Janata Party
(BJP), National Conference, Bahujan Samaj Party are some of the major political parties here.
By securing 33.94% of votes polled,
Jamyang Tsering Namgyal
of BJP emerged victorious in the 2019 elections. He won against the independent candidate Sajjad Hussain who managed to get 25.30% of the votes polled.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Thupstan Chhewang of BJP had won the seat against independent candidate Ghulam Raza.
