The deceased has been identified as Arathy, 30, daughter of Pradeep and Balamani from Vettakkal. She succumbed to her burn injuries at the govt medical college hospital in Vandanam, in Kerala's Alappuzha.
The horrific crime took place near Cherthala taluk hospital at around 9am when she was waylaid, allegedly by her husband Samji Chandran, 34, a Kadakkarapally native, who was on a motorcycle.

She had been on her way to work on a scooter. Chandran suffered minor burn injuries when he allegedly poured petrol over her and set her on fire.
According to police, Chandran used to physically assault Arathy while demanding she dispose of a property she owned. Cherthala police have registered a case.
