Kerala: IMD issues thunderstorm warning amid rising heat

high temperatures

,

IMD

has also issued a warning for thunderstorms with lightning in some places till Monday. It said that thunderstorms with lightning accompanied by gusty winds, speed reaching 30-40 kmph, is very likely to occur at one or two places in Kerala on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Meanwhile, high temperatures will continue with 2-4 degrees above normal in all districts except Idukki and Wayanad till Wednesday.

Maximum temperatures are likely to be around 40˚C in Kollam and Palakkad districts. Palakkad recorded the highest maximum temperature of 40.1°C on Saturday. It will be around 38˚C in Thrissur and Kannur and around 37˚C in Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Kozhikode. Thiruvananthapuram, Malappuram and Kasaragod districts will have temperatures of 36 degrees.
The sultry weather is very likely over these districts except in hilly areas due to high temperature and humidity.

INCOIS issued a high wave warning for the state. It said that there is a possibility that the sea will be rough nearshore along the coast because of high period (16 - 17 sec) swell waves, having heights of 0.5 - 1.4m. Current speeds vary between 20 - 40 cm/sec. However, it was appreciably above normal in Kozhikode, Palakkad, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Kollam and Thrissur districts.
