KDMC approved Rs 3,182 crore budget with no hike in taxes

KALYAN: Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation commissioner Dr. Indurani Jakhar approved a budget of Rs 3,182 crore for the financial year 2024-25 on Tuesday, with no increase in any new

taxes

.
In this year's budget, Jakhar has emphasis on

social welfare

of all sections of society that includes disabled, students, women and senior citizens. Jakhar in the budget has also focused on

environmental sustainability

with provision to make five new gardens.

While addressing the media Jakhar said, "A landscaped park will be developed on a plot of reservation number 152 in Barawe, and the innovative concept of "Autism Village" will be implemented in this park. This will provide a well-equipped park with all kinds of facilities to children with autism in the municipal area".
At many places in the city, the green area will be increased by Miyawaki method to enhance green cover and develop well-equipped gardens for children.

The budget includes provisions for diverse welfare schemes, including monthly pensions and educational initiatives under the Divyang Kalyan Yojana for which provision of Rs 12 crore has been kept.
Funds have also been earmarked for setting up women's hostels, scholarships for deserving students, and two shelter homes- one at Dombivli and one at Titwala for homeless citizens.
The

KDMC

has proposed to start the Savitribai Phule Scholarship Scheme for the students who have completed their primary education in municipal schools for NEET, JEE as well as MPSC, UPSC competitive examinations and provide financial assistance under it.

To improve health services, the commissioner has made provision for the recruitment of specialist doctors and staff in municipal hospitals, and setting up a cancer hospital with advanced facilities in Dombivali East.
The KDMC has also proposed to construct a Hindi Bhashi Bhawan at Netivali, Agri Koli Kunbi Cultural Bhawan and Warkari Bhawan will be constructed at Kalyan (West).
The civic body is expected to get Rs 700.15 crore in civic taxes, Rs 308.57 crore through GST grants, and Rs 661.50 crore from special acts, the civic chief said.
Some key budget allocations include Rs 587.59 crore towards establishment and administrative expenses, Rs 194.61 crore towards water supply and sewage, and Rs 181.68 crore for public health.
