snowfall since late Saturday amid forecasts of an extended wet spell in J&K till February 21.
The rain-snow combo was remarkable because of a tepid winter that stripped vast Kashmir swathes of snow this time in a weather deviation blamed on many factors, including global warming.

Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 2 degrees Celsius on Saturday and minus 1 on Sunday. The corresponding readings for Srinagar were 3 and 5.8.
The region basked under its first white flakes this season a few weeks ago, but that snowfall was brief. If the current run continues as predicted till Wednesday, it will mark the longest rain-and-snow streak this winter.
The Met office has issued an advisory that the snow-dumping weather system may lead to temporary closure of roads in higher reaches, affecting spots like Sinthan Pass, Mughal Road, Sadhna, Razdan Pass and Zojila.
“Travellers are advised to plan accordingly. Farmers should withhold irrigation and fertiliser application, and drain out excess water from orchards and fields during this period,” a Met official said.
