THANE: A 38 year old Karnataka native died after he fell off a running suburban train while it was crossing the old Pune highway overbridge and plunged nearly 50 feet down on the road between Mumbra and Kalwa, late Monday, officials informed.
Initial investigations revealed the man who worked with a prominent tyre manufacturing company in Mumbai was travelling on the footboard of a Thane-bound local train when he lost his hold and fell off when the train was crossing the overbridge over the old highway beneath, officials informed.

“The victim is a native of Karnataka and stayed in Thakurli and worked in Mumbai with a tyre manufacturing company. He was probably on his way to work in the night shift when the mishap occurred. He may have fallen off the train onto the railway bridge first and then slipped off from the gap on the highway beneath. Our teams found him on the highway and rushed him to the hospital where he was declared dead,” informed an official.
Meanwhile, railway activist Siddhesh Desai blamed the overcrowding in trains on the Kalwa-Mumbra stretch for the rising number of mishaps on the stretch and appealed to the administration to formulate a solution.
