Kanpur police
on Thursday said it will prosecute the man whose car the minor son of a leading doctor was driving when it had mowed down two persons at Ganga Barrage in
Nawabganj
area in Oct 2023.
The car belonged to the father of one of the three minor friends who were present in the vehicle when the accident took place.
"Apart from the accused who caused the accident, his friends, and the owner of the car will face action in the case," said ACP Harish Chander. "We are seeking legal opinion on action against the father of a minor teen whose car was involved in the accident," Chander added.
On Wednesday, police sent the doctor's minor son to a
juvenile home
after it came to light that the minor involved in the October 2023 accident in Nawabganj had recently left four injured after he knocked them off with his car in the
Barra area
of the city on March 31.
Police also initiated action against the father for allowing his 15-year-old son to drive his car even after the Oct 2023 accident. Cops are also probing the role of the local police in brushing the probe in both the cases under carpet and not taking any action against the accused.
Sources said a probe was underway into reports that a politician had intervened on behalf of the accused and cops had obliged in the case. With the case in the limelight, police will probe why a chargesheet was not filed in the first case.
