BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has sounded a warning to Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren, predicting that the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) government may face internal turmoil in the coming days.
The trigger for Dubey’s word of caution is the election victory of Kalpana Soren, wife of jailed former Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Kalpana Soren secured a seat in the state assembly through a by-election. Dubey has hinted that her presence could lead to significant changes in the state’s political landscape.
"Champai da, be careful, Kalpana Bhabhi has come, the coming 7 days are going to be very important for the current government of Jharkhand," Dubey tweeted.
Kalpana Soren gained prominence after her husband’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case related to an alleged land fraud. Her name had been floated as a potential contender for the Chief Minister’s position.
Prior to Soren's arrest, Dubey had claimed that Kalpana Soren might take over as Jharkhand Chief Minister. Champai Soren, a loyalist, ultimately assumed the role.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Champai Soren and senior JMM leaders, including Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto, visited Hemant Soren at Birsa Munda Central Jail on Saturday.
Party sources told news agency PTI that they discussed the Lok Sabha election results and strategised for the upcoming assembly polls. Kalpana Soren was reportedly part of the team of JMM leaders.
Kalpana Soren won from the Gandey assembly seat, where she secured 27,149 votes more than her nearest BJP rival Dilip Kumar Verma. The seat had become vacant following the resignation of JMM MLA Sarfaraz Ahmad.
