NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party's Tseten Chombay Kee won the Kalaktang assembly constituency in Arunachal Pradesh by a margin of 2869 votes. Nationalist Congress Party candidate Wangdi Dorjee Khrimey secured 3161 votes.
Kalaktang is designated as constituency number 6 and located in the West Kameng district.
Falling under the Arunachal West Lok Sabha constituency, Kalaktang is reserved for Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates and is predominantly inhabited by the Monpa and Sherdukpen tribes, known for their rich cultural heritage and traditional practices.
The constituency has a voting population of 10,992 people, with a literacy rate of around 65%. The 2019 assembly elections saw a voter turnout of about 87%, indicating significant political engagement among the residents.
Kalaktang has seen active participation from major parties such as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress (INC). In the 2019 assembly elections, Dorjee Wangdi Kharma of the BJP won the seat, while Tenzing Norbu Thongdok of the INC secured victory in the 2014 elections.
