NEW DELHI: The

New York Jets

have given quarterback

Zach Wilson

the green light to explore potential trade opportunities, marking a potential shift in the team's quarterback dynamics. General Manager

Joe Douglas

made the announcement on Wednesday during the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
Wilson, drafted by the Jets with the No. 2 overall pick in 2021, has had a tumultuous tenure, going 12-21 as a starter over three seasons.

The decision to allow Wilson to seek a trade comes amid the return of four-time league MVP

Aaron Rodgers

to the Jets for the 2024 season. Rodgers is set to take on the role of the team's starting quarterback.

During the combine, Douglas acknowledged the ongoing discussions with Wilson's agent, Brian Ayrault, stating, "I've had good conversations with his agent. Where we are exactly, we've given them permission to talk to other teams about a trade." Douglas indicated that he would reconvene with Ayrault in the coming weeks to assess the progress of those conversations.
League experts suggest that Wilson's trade value could translate to either a sixth- or seventh-round pick in the upcoming NFL draft, or possibly involve a middle-round pick swap.

The 24-year-old quarterback faced challenges during the 2023 season, finishing with a record of 4-7 and passing for 2,271 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
With the impending departure of Wilson, the 2021 NFL draft class of quarterbacks sees

Trevor Lawrence

of the Jacksonville Jaguars as the sole player guaranteed to remain with his original team as the starter in 2024. Trey Lance, drafted by the San Francisco 49ers and later traded to the Dallas Cowboys, along with Justin Fields (Chicago Bears) and Mac Jones (New England Patriots), face uncertain futures in the upcoming offseason.
