NEW DELHI: Several areas in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir received fresh
snowfall
on Saturday while rain lashed the
plains
.
Moderate rain or snow occurred in most parts of the
Valley
with heavy snow or rainfall over a few places in the past 24 hours, reports official.
Popular tourist destinations Gulmarg, Sonamarg and Doodhpathri received moderate to heavy snow, along with Gurez, Kupwara, Baltal, and other towns in the higher reaches.
The Met department anticipates widespread moderate rain or snow over most areas of Jammu and Kashmir until late Saturday, followed by gradual weather improvement.
Some places, particularly the higher reaches of north Kashmir, central and south Kashmir, and the Pirpanjal range of Jammu division, may witness heavy to very heavy snowfall, the Met office warned.
Additionally, the plains of Kashmir may experience moderate rain or snow, while the plains of Jammu are likely to receive moderate rain, with the possibility of heavy rain in districts like Ramban, Udhampur, and Reasi.
Thunder, lightning, hailstorm, and gusty winds may occur at a few places.
