NEW DELHI: Lucknow Super Giants have made a significant roster change ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League matches, announcing the inclusion of New Zealand fast bowler
Matt Henry
as a replacement for England all-rounder
David Willey
. Henry, known for his pace and swing, joins LSG at his base price of Rs 1.25 crore, bolstering the team's bowling attack.
The decision comes after David Willey withdrew from the tournament due to personal reasons.
Willey, who joined the Super Giants last year through the auction, had represented Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2022 and 2023. The left-arm seamer also cited fatigue, having spent over two months on the road, participating in other T20 tournaments like the ILT20 (Abu Dhabi Knight Riders) and Pakistan Super League (Multan Sultans) earlier this year.
Willey's absence adds to LSG's challenges, as he becomes the second England pacer to be unavailable for the team, following Mark Wood's withdrawal by the ECB to manage his workload ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup. Wood was replaced by West Indian pacer Shamar Joseph.
Meanwhile, Matt Henry brings valuable experience to the Lucknow Super Giants, having previously represented Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings in the IPL. The 32-year-old has featured in 25 Tests, 82 ODIs, and 17 T20Is for New Zealand, amassing 256 wickets across formats.

Henry's arrival is expected to provide LSG with a potent bowling option and strengthen their squad as they aim to make a mark in the ongoing IPL season. With his track record of success in international cricket and previous IPL stints, Henry's addition adds depth to the Super Giants' bowling arsenal, enhancing their prospects in the tournament.
