Indiana Fever Star Turns Heads After Technical Foul Against Dream originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Late in the third quarter of Tuesday’s showdown between the Indiana Fever and the Atlanta Dream at Gateway Center Arena, Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell found herself on the hot seat.
With 45 seconds remaining in the quarter, Mitchell drove hard to the rim, flashed a clinching layup and converted, even though she believed she’d been fouled.
When the officials refused to make the call, Mitchell protested, earning a technical foul for the brief argument.
The Dream were then awarded a free throw, and the short skirmish set social media alight as fans argued that stars like Mitchell should be allowed to debate controversial calls.
they gave a whole lecture because kelsey got a tech? she can’t complain about calls now? pic.twitter.com/PE03lHqVN7

"These refs have been so bad," said one user.
"Kelsey Mitchell got to the paint the whole game but shot only 2 free throws. Meanwhile Lexi and Boston were in foul trouble the whole time and on the bench," said another commenter.
"Cathy going to have half the stars of the league on tech number 3 and $1500 fines before she fixes her damn refs I know that much," responded another fan.
"Atlanta announcers are so trash, Canada literally smacked Kelsey in the head with a forearm and they said they didn’t think they saw a foul," replied one other user.
"These announcers are not even slightly trying to hide their bias," another fan replied.
One other fan offered a more measured reaction, saying, "People complaining about officials and announcers are focusing on the wrong issues after that second half playing and coaching performance."
The Dream ultimately prevailed 77-58, pulling away with a dominant third quarter that saw them outscore the Fever 23-9, turning what was a 33-33 tie a halftime into a rout.
With the loss, Indiana fell to 4-5 overall (2-2 on the road), having now lost three of the last five games without their star Caitlin Clark, who remains out with a quad injury.
