IMD warns of heavy rains in Kerala for next five days

KOCHI:

IMD

has issued a heavy

rainfall warning

for the next five days from Sunday. A

shear zone

runs roughly above mean sea level. The trough from south Maharashtra to southeast Arabian off

south Kerala

runs from Maharashtra to North Kerala and extends up to 0.9km above mean sea level. Under the influence of the above systems, orange and yellow alerts have been sounded for Kerala till Wednesday.

Rain or thundershower is most likely to occur at most places in Kerala at many places on June 13-14.
Orange alert

has been issued for Kasaragod and Kannur while seven districts - Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Idukki, Thrissur, Wayanad, Palakkad and

Malappuram

- are on

yellow alert

on Sunday.
Isolated heavy rainfall warning of 7-11cm has been issued for Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Thrissur, Palakkad, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod and Malappuram on Monday and Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Malappuram and Kasaragod on Tuesday.
Squally weather with wind speed 35- 45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph likely to prevail along and off Kerala Coast. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the above sea areas during this period.

INCOIS has issued a high wave watch alert for Kasaragod, Kannur, Kollam and

Thiruvananthapuram

on Sunday. High waves in the range of 1.7-2.0m are forecasted from 11:30 hours to 20:30 hours on Sunday. The high wave watch for Kollam coast is from Alappattu to Edava. For T'puram, it is from Kappil To Poovar.
According to the 24 hour rainfall recorded on Saturday morning, Peringalkuthu received 7cm while Thiruvananthapuram and Ayyankunnu got 5 cm rainfall each.
