IMD: No relief from heatwave till Wednesday in Odisha

Heatwave

continued to grip several districts of

Odisha

on Sunday with the India Meteorological Department (

IMD

) saying respite unlikely till June 6.
The forecast said heatwave warning is still in place for several western Odisha districts while hot and humid

weather

will continue in coastal areas. However, one or two places in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Ganjam districts reported rain with thunderstorm and uprooting of trees at several places on Sunday.
Officials at the IMD’s Bhubaneswar Center said maximum

temperature

has dropped in most parts of the state on Sunday. However, heatwave conditions will continue in interior districts like Bargarh, Balangir, Nuapada, Sonepur and Kalahandi till Wednesday. Hot and humid weather conditions will add to discomfort levels in districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati. A few places in the state may witness thunder showers and strong winds, the IMD sources said.
Highest day temperature of the state 42.5 degrees Celsius recorded at Jharsuguda on Sunday which was a significant drop of 4 degrees from Saturday. The day temperature is likely to be between 43 to 45°C at a few places over the districts of interior Odisha.

Day temperature in Bhubaneswar was 38.3 degrees Celsius and 36 degrees Celsius in Cuttack on Sunday. The capital will have partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain on Monday.
