If hiring scam is proved, may scrap full teachers' panel: Calcutta HC

KOLKATA:

Calcutta high court

observed on Wednesday that it may entirely or partially scrap the entire panel of teachers

shortlisted

by the Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) if the

recruitment scam

was proved.
If the entire panel is scrapped, it could affect over 10,000

candidates

shortlisted for the job of teachers between 2014 and 2016, when the scam allegedly took place.

A division bench of Justices Debangsu Basak and Md Shabbar Rashidi observed that the bench was left with only two options - scrapping the panel partially or entirely - if the scam was proved. Justice Basak qualified his primary observation by adding that there was a need to examine a number of things. "If appointments were found to be illegal, it would lead to its natural conclusion. If someone gets an appointment through the back door, what should the court do?" he said. "The country's future is more important than the plight of 5,000 to 10,000 teachers on the job. Why should vacant teaching posts be filled up with the undeserving?" he added.
