Panaji: It was a mixed day for Goan clubs in the

I-League 2

as

Dempo SC

secured a comfortable win while

Sporting Clube de Goa

were stunned in their away fixture on Saturday.
At Ella ground, Old Goa, Dempo enjoyed a 4-1 win against

Maharashtra Oranje FC

, while Sporting were stunned 0-1 by

Sudeva Delhi FC

at the Ambedkar Stadium, Delhi.
Dempo kept themselves in contention as they moved to third in the standings with 14 points after eight rounds.

Sporting suffered their third straight defeat in the competition and are now fifth with 10 points as Sudeva moved fourth with 11 points.
FC Bengaluru United FC

are leading with 19 points, followed by their city rivals

SC Bengaluru

in second who have a point less.

Dempo took time to settle down as Oranje started with a burst of pace and energy in the initial moments.
But the visitors slowly lost steam.
The home side came close in the 11th minute when Shubham Rawat's header hit the post after a cross from Pruthvesh Pednekar. Off the rebound, Oranje goalkeeper Pratik Jadhav did well to deny Saiesh Bagkar.
The Oranje goalkeeper, though, was the reason for the opening goal at the half an hour mark. His poor pass hit Dempo’s onrushing attacker Rahul Paswan and entered the goal.

Before the break, Dempo had another one with a well worked move as Pruthvesh provided Basanta Singh with a perfect low cross for an easy tap in.
Oranje started the second half on a positive note. They had a good opportunity when Sanchit Singh was in a one-on-one position but aimed straight into Dempo keeper Sangramjit Chowdhury.
But Oranje did pull one back just after the hour mark when Sanchit set up Aimar Adam.
Any chance of a comeback for the visitors ended in the 83rd minute after a defensive miscommunication as Yash Vanveru headed into his own-goal while attempting to find Pratik.
With two minutes remaining, Dempo gained a penalty and substitute Sanwil D’Costa made no mistake from the spot.
Meanwhile, in Delhi, Sporting Clube conceded with eight minutes remaining for the final whistle as Ramesh Chettri scored the match-winner for Sudeva Delhi.
Sporting will next travel to Mumbai to face

Kenkre FC

on Tuesday, while Dempo will also be on the road as they take on FC Bengaluru United the next day.
