NEW DELHI: A 34-year-old

homeless woman

was recently discovered residing inside a sign atop a

Family Fare grocery store

in

Midland

, Michigan.
The woman had been living in the sign for an entire year, complete with a desk, coffee maker, computer, and printer, according to Fox News.
The unusual

living arrangement

came to light on April 23 when contractors at the store noticed an extension cord running up to the roof, where there was an electrical outlet.

Officer Brennon Warren of the Midland

Police Department

described the situation as one that "makes you scratch your head." He elaborated, "There was some flooring that was laid down. A mini desk, her clothing. A

Keurig

coffee maker. A printer and a computer — things you'd have in your home."

Warren expressed uncertainty about how the woman accessed the sign, which measures 5 feet wide and 8 feet high and is accessible from the store's roof through a door. He said, "I honestly don't know how she was getting up there. She didn't indicate, either," noting the absence of a ladder.
The police provided the woman with information about local services and she apologized before leaving the scene. Her subsequent whereabouts remain unknown. “We provided her with some information about services in the area. She apologized and continued on her way. Where she went from there, I don't know,” said officer Warren.

As per the woman's statement to the police, she had been residing in the Family Fare grocery market sign while employed elsewhere.
No charges have been filed against the woman, who agreed to vacate the sign. SpartanNash, the parent company of Family Fare, commended their employees for handling the situation with "compassion and professionalism" in a statement. They acknowledged the widespread issue of

affordable housing

, emphasizing the need for community partnership in finding solutions.
