The Indian Meteorological Department predicted light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and winds for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Karnataka, and parts of Andhra Pradesh till May 23.

Meanwhile, the heat wave could continue in Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh, with temperatures projected to rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in central India and parts of Maharashtra.

Coastal Karnataka, south interior Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and Lakshadweep are expected to encounter heavy downpours, while Tamil Nadu and Kerala may experience extremely heavy rainfall during this period.

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands will likely witness light to moderate rainfall, with heavy rain likely in the Nicobar Islands. Konkan, Goa, parts of Maharashtra, and central India will also face similar weather conditions.

Similarly, widespread rainfall with strong winds has been predicted in the northeastern states, due to a cyclonic circulation over Assam and adjacent regions. Isolated showers and thunderstorms have also been predicted over north India, due to a western disturbance over Afghanistan and north Pakistan.

A gradual rise in temperature is predicted over north-west India after two days.

Heat wave to severe heat wave conditions are expected to affect several pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, as well as parts of Uttarakhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha.

Warmer and more humid conditions are expected in Konkan, Goa, parts of West Bengal, and Odisha, with warm nights projected for East Rajasthan and Bihar, the weather department said.
