NEW DELHI: Delhi HC will take up next week a

plea

for a direction to Election Commission to disqualify PM Narendra

Modi

from contesting elections for six years, alleging he had violated the poll code by seeking votes in the name of gods and religion. Justice Sachin Datta could not hear the plea Friday since he was presiding over the UAPA tribunal and

adjourned

the matter, which is now likely to be taken up on April 29.

The plea, filed by advocate Anand S Jondhale last week, sought Modi's disqualification alleging that he violated the model code of conduct during his campaign speech in UP's Pilibhit on April 9, by making references to Hindu and Sikh deities and places of worship.
The petitioner said he approached HC since EC took no action on his complaint seeking PM's disqualification.
