CHANDIGARH: As a sudden
political crisis
stormed the tiny hill state of Himachal Pradesh, leaders from the neighbouring Haryana appear to have been playing a key role both in abetting the turmoil and in managing the situation.
Haryana, which is being ruled by BJP govt, has played a major role in providing safe shelter to the rebel Congress legislators in Panchkula district that shares its boundaries with Himachal.
Even to manage the crisis, the Congress high command has deputed a senior leader from Haryana, former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda, along with Karnataka deputy CM D K Shivakumar.
Hooda, who was attending the budget sessions of Haryana assembly, immediately left for HP on Wednesday afternoon. He shares good relations with the family of former CM of Himachal late Virbhadra Singh.
On Tuesday, six rebel Congress MLAs landed at Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Panchkula, around 6.30 pm. They were initially taken to the Panchkulabased PWD rest house in tight security of the Haryana police commandos and later, were shifted to Holiday Inn, a private hotel located near the stadium in Panchkula. Private choppers in which they had landed were also parked in the stadium.
On Wednesday morning, these legislators were again taken to Shimla in two chop- pers and brought back to Panchkula in the evening.
The entire logistics, transportation and security have been provided to them in the saffron party-ruled Haryana. Most of the vehicles in which these legislators left the stadium after landing at Panchkula were HP and Chandigarh registered.
However, security vehicles that escorted them were of the Haryana Police. Till the filing of this report, all the nine legislators were shifted to Hotel Lalit near IT Park in Chandigarh.
