CHANDIGARH: Describing
governor Banwarilal Purohit
not delivering his address as a “moral defeat” for
Bhagwant Mann
, leader of opposition
Partap Singh Bajwa
called for the resignation of the
chief minister
.
Members of the
Congress
resorted to protests and sloganeering over the farmers’ agitation, forcing the governor to read only a few lines of his address before declaring it as “deemed read”.
Referring to the governor’s address as a “document of lies”, Bajwa said they had requested Purohit not to read it. “We are grateful that he acceded to our request and halted his address, indicating his agreement with us,” Bajwa said.
Lashing out at the AAP govt, Bajwa said that Punjab was facing tough times, with over 300 farmers sustaining injuries and nine deaths being reported in the ongoing protests. He accused the Chief Minister of neglecting the state’s security, asserting that he had forfeited the moral authority to govern. Bajwa stressed that Punjab’s sovereignty and the welfare of its farmers have been jeopardised under Mann’s leadership.
Further criticising the Chief Minister, Bajwa alleged that he acts more as an agent of the central government than as a representative of Punjab’s interests. He argued that the Chief Minister’s failure to safeguard the state’s territory, rights, and farmers necessitate his resignation.
The senior Congress leader reminded Mann of his old statement, reportedly asserting that AAP would ensure Minimum Support Price (MSP) for all crops and calling for then Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to resign.
Bajwa also accused the Punjab government of creating divisions among farmers’ unions to undermine the protest’s success. He reassured farmers that Congress would stand by them until the end and ensure they receive their rights.
“He has lost the moral authority to govern the state and should immediately resign,” concluded Bajwa.
