Earlier this month,
announced the shut down of its Podcasts app and service for users in the US. The tech giant has now announced that the service will be shut down for all the users starting June this year. As per the revised support article,
Google Podcasts
is set to become accessible to "users beyond the United States" until "mid-to-late June 2024."
It's uncertain whether this winding down process will unfold region by region (Americas, Asia, Europe, etc.), mirroring the rollout approach seen with podcasts in
YouTube Music
, or if it will be shut down all at once.
The company has also announced that the Google Podcasts users can also easily transfer their show
subscriptions
to YouTube Music or export them for use in another podcast app.
Also, the Google Podcasts date will also remain available for takeout for 1 year and after that the company will start the process of deleting all users’ Google Podcasts data.
How to transfer Podcasts subscription to YouTube Music
1. From the Google Podcasts app, click Export subscriptions at the top of the screen.
2. Under “Export to YouTube Music,” tap Export.
3. From the YouTube Music app, tap Transfer.
* Note: If you don’t have YouTube Music installed, you’ll be asked to install the app.
4. Read the disclosure and tap Continue.
It may take a few minutes for your subscriptions to transfer. When complete, you’ll find confirmation on your YouTube Music home screen. Tap Go to Library to view your subscriptions.
