Google and Samsung’s version of Apple AirDrop is now rolling out on these Android smartphones

The long-awaited update that brings seamless file sharing between different Android devices is finally starting to roll out. This update, dubbed Quick Share, is essentially Android's answer to Apple's AirDrop. Previously, sharing files between Android devices was limited by compatibility issues. Google's

Nearby Share

and Samsung's

Quick Share

offered similar functionality to AirDrop, but they only worked within their respective ecosystems.

This meant you couldn't easily send files between a Pixel and a Galaxy phone, for example.
This changes now with Quick Share feature. With collaboration between Google and Samsung, Quick Share is expanding its reach.
What is Quick Share feature on Android phones
Once you have the new Quick Share feature on your Android phone, you can quickly and easily share photos, videos, and other files with nearby Android users. This Quick Share feature won't just be for Android phones either. Users will be able to share with nearby Chromebooks, and eventually to Windows PCs as well. The feature will allow seamless file sharing between Pixel devices, Samsung devices, and other Android phones and Chromebooks that support Nearby Share.

Rollout timeline
Pixel users: Some Pixel users are already seeing Quick Share on their devices. Others might need to wait a bit longer for the update.
Samsung users: Galaxy phones are expected to receive the update by tomorrow as part of the One UI 6.1 rollout.
Other Android users: The update will gradually reach other Android phones and Chromebooks that support Nearby Share.
What else is new
Apart from Quick Share, Samsung's One UI 6.1 update brings other exciting features to Galaxy phones:

Lock screen widgets: Personalize your lock screen with handy widgets for quick access to information and apps.
Improved battery protection: Optimize your battery life with new settings and features.
AI photo edits: Enhance your photos with impressive AI-powered tools.
