STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (PIX11) – An emotional reunion was held Wednesday for a 10-year-old girl who was stabbed within an inch of her life when she was just a toddler on Staten Island.

Miracle Cutler went to visit the officers who played a big role in her recovery. One of those officers is NYPD First Deputy Commissioner Tania Kinsella.

Miracle is living up to her name, as she's the sole survivor of a brutal knife attack that claimed the lives of her mother and two baby sisters.

"I feel very special and grateful," she told PIX11 News.

The stabbing happened inside of a Staten Island Ramada Inn used for homeless families in 2016. Miracle was two years old at the time.

Police say her mother's boyfriend, Michael Sykes, went on a violent rampage. Sykes stabbed Miracle 11 times and she spent days fighting for her life at Richmond University Medical Center.

The family stayed in touch with Kinsella, who was a lieutenant at the time. Kinsella said she never stopped thinking about Miracle.

Kinsella helped the family, prayed for a full recovery and was always there for them.

"She has been my rock, she is so supportive to me and my family," said Michelle Mathis, who is caring for Miracle.

Miracle said she has gained so much support after the deaths of her mother and siblings. Over the years, the community and the NYPD have made donations to the family, and built bonds and friendships with them.

Miracle said she wants to be a singer and artist when she grows up.
