NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – The city is currently hiring 264 entry-level positions across all five boroughs, from gardeners to assistant building superintendents.
As of Wednesday, the city had over 3,200 jobs open – 264 of which were categorized as “entry level.” Some entry level positions have no education requirements and some require bachelor’s degrees or experience.
The city’s Department of Social Services has the most job openings listed on the city’s website with a whopping 651 open roles. The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is not far behind, looking for workers to fill 492 open positions.
The city’s Parks department is hiring a number of positions heading into spring including gardeners, a painter, a horticulturist and enforcement worker.
Here’s a look at some of the open jobs:
- Swim instructor, Department of Parks and Recreation
- Pay: $23.66/hour
- Duties: Organize and instruct toddlers, children, adults and seniors for the Learn to Swim program. Coach and supervise lap swim, water exercise classes and camps.
- Gardener, Department of Parks and Recreation
- Pay: $22.72/hour
- Duties: Plan and cultivate trees, flowers and shrubs. Maintain greenhouses and nurseries.
- Assistant Resident Building Superintendent, NYCHA
- Pay: $54,272-$83,117
- Duties: Supervise and oversee maintenance and repairs, maintain records, create work schedules and deploy staff.
- Customer Service Assistant, Department of Social Services
- Pay: $35,536-$46,104
- Duties: Review and respond to 311 inquiries, refer unresolved customary inquiries, identify trends in customer service issues.
- English-Spanish Translator, Manhattan District Attorney
- Pay: $57,200
- Duties: Translate documents, statements and press releases between Spanish and English. Transcribe and translate audio and video. Interpret via video and in-person.
- Licensed Barber, Department of Corrections
- Pay: $35,197-$40,477
- Duties: Give haircuts and hairdressing for incarcerated individuals. Maintain inventory and supplies.
