in 2019. With this service, Apple allows users to access a catalogue of
mobile games
and features no
in-app purchases
or advertising with a $6.99 monthly fee. The Cupertino-based tech giant’s hold on the gaming market is increasing as a new report claims that nearly 10% of consumers in the US play Apple Arcade titles every week.
How Apple Arcade is competing against other services
According to a report by Midia Research (spotted by AppleInsider), Apple Arcade’s fanbase has grown steadily and every 10 out of 100 subscribers play games on this service every week. The report also claims that Apple's weekly player base is almost similar to that of
Nintendo Switch Online
and
Steam
. Each of these platforms has 11% of consumers playing games each week. The report also highlights that Apple's performance is twice as much as Ubisoft+ and Nvidia's GeForce Now, which have 5% and 4%, respectively.
Apple Arcade: Top titles and more
Apple allows subscribers to access Apple Arcade titles on multiple devices. This includes
iPhone
,
iPad
, Apple TV and Mac. It is also important to note that the company’s first-ever mixed reality headset, the Apple Vision Pro, which is set to hit the shelves on February 2, is set to launch with over 100 Apple Arcade titles.
In 2023, Apple Arcade's Hello Kitty: Island Adventure was nominated for The Game Awards in the Best Mobile Game category. However, the title was ultimately beaten out by Honkai: Star Rail.
Last week, Apple added three new titles and over 20 major updates to popular games that are coming to the Arcade in January. These new games will include epic adventures, relaxing puzzles and classic card games with a twist.
Players can be a part of a journey in Tamagotchi Adventure Kingdom. In this title, players will be able to help the hero Mametchi restore harmony to the Tamagotchi planet. Players can explore quirky landscapes, meet nearly 300 characters, and build a wilderness camp in this game.
This month Apple is also adding a new version of Minesweeper re-imagined with popcorn. The relaxing Cornsweeper game features a lo-fi soundtrack with reggae infusions.
Apple Arcade is also getting Blackjack by MobilityWare+ in January. This game will bring the casino classic to life and is set in locations like London and Barcelona.
