Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir posted a special smiling picture on a fan’s request on Wednesday, May 15 to allow her to propose her crush. Notably, Gambhir is known for having a serious demeanour as he’s rarely seen smiling or laughing. However, things changed quickly when a photograph of a fan holding a placard during the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024 caught the attention of the KKR mentor.

The placard read ‘I will not propose my crush until Gambhir smiles’. To cater to the fan’s request, the two-time IPL winner posted a smiling picture of himself on his Instagram account with a caption, “Here you go!” As a result, Gambhir’s reply instantly went viral as fans appreciated the former opening batter for his gesture.

Meanwhile, in the ongoing IPL season, KKR are having a dream run under Gambhir’s mentorship. The 42-year-old, who served as the mentor of LSG in the previous two seasons, was signed by the franchise ahead of the season and the move has worked wonders for the Kolkata-based franchise.

The Shreyas Iyer-led side is ranked on the top of the points table with nine wins from 13 matches having 19 points to their name. The two-time champions started the season with a hat-trick of wins against SRH, RCB and DC before losing their first game against CSK. Kolkata further suffered two harrowing losses at their home ground where they allowed first RR and then PBKS to chase down the highest score in the history of IPL.

However, Kolkata once again made a strong comeback by winning the next four fixtures on the trot to rise to the top of the table. A washout in the previous game against GT has ensured that KKR will finish in the top two spots which will allow them to have two chances to qualify for the final. Their last league fixture will be against RR on Sunday, May 19 at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati. Gambhir, who’s led KKR to both of their title victories in 2012 and 2014, will be eager to lead the franchise to their third title under his mentorship.
