Actor
Justin Long
, who was in
Apple
's "I'm a Mac" ads many years ago, is now in a new ad for Qualcomm. In the ad, he uses a MacBook but gets annoyed by lots of notifications. He then searches for a PC with a
Qualcomm
Snapdragon chip inside.
This ad comes out as
Microsoft
and Qualcomm are trying to compete with Apple's new M-series chips. Microsoft says its new Surface Laptop with a Qualcomm chip is better than Apple's MacBook Air in speed and battery life.
A few years ago, Long was also in ads for Intel, comparing Windows PCs to MacBooks.
Some people think the new Qualcomm ad feels a bit rushed and desperate, since we don't know yet how well the new Qualcomm chips and PCs will actually perform in real life.
The ad also makes fun of notifications and app problems on macOS. But this is a bit funny, because
Windows on ARM
PCs have had their own struggles with making apps work well in the past.
At the end of the ad, Long says "Things change." But we'll have to wait and see if these new PCs are really as good as Microsoft and Qualcomm say they are. The battle between Macs and PCs is definitely back, and both sides are making big claims.
In the coming weeks, we'll find out more about how these new Windows on Arm PCs stack up against Apple's laptops.
