BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) – Small kitchen composting containers will be given out in Brooklyn on April 5, according to state Sen. Roxanne J. Persaud.
The giveaway will be held at Persaud’s office, located at 1222 East 96th St. in Brooklyn, from 10 a.m. to noon. Registration is required to pick up a new bin, so constituents can call 718-649-7653 for more information.
Composting rules went into effect in New York City on April 1. Anyone caught not composting could be hit with fines starting at $25 and going up to $300 per offense.
If you don't have a compost bin, they're available to purchase for $43.47 by clicking here.
Any 55-gallon or less bin, with a clear label, can also be used for composting. Check here for the official New York City Department of Sanitation composting decal.
