Former Calcutta high court judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay joins BJP

Abhijit Gangopadhyay

, who recently

resigned

as a judge in the

Calcutta High Court

, has now joined the BJP.
After stepping down from his position, Gangopadhyay had already announced his intention to join the

saffron party

.
"Today, I have joined a new field. I am happy to join the BJP and will work as a party soldier. Our objective is to oust the

corrupt TMC regime

from the state," he said after his official joining.

Gangopadhyay's official joining was marked by a warm reception at the BJP office in Salt Lake, where he was handed the party flag by state party president
