VIJAYWADA: Unidentified

miscreants

set ablaze a

statue

of late former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh

YS Rajasekhara Reddy

at Addepalle

village

under Bhattiprolu mandal of Vemuru assembly constituency in

Bapatla district

on Saturday.
The statue melted despite the efforts to douse the flames.
The locals and

police

said that a few miscreants torched the statue by using petrol.

The miscreants also vandalised a

TDP

flag-post in the locality.
The Bapatla district police said that they have registered a case and formed a special team to identify and nab the culprits .

The officials also deployed police personnel at a few places to prevent possible untoward incidents in the village.
It may be recalled that a few weeks ago, APCC chief YS Sharmila, who is daughter of YS Rajasekhara Reddy expressed concern over

vandalism

of YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s statues in some parts of the state after the NDA alliance’s landslide win in the state.
YS Rajasekhara Reddy (popular as YSR) had served as the chief minister of then undivided Andhra Pradesh from 2004 to 2009 and he was father of former chief minister and YSRC chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
It may be recalled that YSR died after his helicopter crashed on September 2, 2009 in the Nallamala forest. Even after his death, he remains popular among the people for his welfare-schemes.
