NEW DELHI: India’s newly appointed Test captain, Shubman Gill, officially stepped into his new role with a symbolic first photoshoot in England, marking a new chapter in Indian cricket’s storied journey.

With the retirements of legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, the team is in transition — and 25-year-old Gill is at the helm of what promises to be a defining era.Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. Facing the express pace of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh, Gill has been sharpening his technique and leadership instincts.

Arshdeep even remarked that the new skipper is “in good touch” — a promising sign ahead of a five-match Test series in challenging English conditions.Earlier in a video released by the BCCI, Gill shared his emotions: “As a young kid, when anyone starts playing cricket, they want to play for India, and not just play for India, but play Test cricket for India for a very long time. To be able to get this opportunity is a great honour… it is a big responsibility.”

The high-stakes series, beginning June 20 at Headingley, Leeds, will see matches also held at Edgbaston, Lord’s, The Oval, and Old Trafford, concluding in August 2025. Without stalwarts Rohit and Virat, India’s young brigade led by Gill will seek to make a statement in one of the toughest overseas assignments.
